Sadie Lynes is a keen amateur eventer who has been riding for more than 20 years and at competition level for the past seven. She was as shocked as anyone when she read the Horse and Hound story about VOSA prosecuting horse owners who could unwittingly be breaking the law, simply by pursuing their passion.

Fortunately for Sadie, as a businesswoman she had already encountered The Transport Manager Paul Jacobs and he was swiftly able to make sense of the legislation and regulations.

She said: “I was initially worried that simply by going to a show I could fall foul of VOSA and the legislation, and was delighted when Paul was able to help. The idea of assimilating the legislation without proper guidance was very intimidating, but I simply couldn’t afford to ignore it.

“Talking through our own situation we soon realised that we could help other horse owners and the idea of www.horseboxregs.co.uk was born. We hope that visitors will find the information on our Support Page helpful and will then fill out our Survey. This will help us prepare more information.”

Paul Jacobs is a well known expert in transport and logistics, holding both the national and international Certificate of Professional Competency. He founded The Transport Manager to help businesses through the warren of legislation that can impact on their businesses and ultimately save them money through better planning, following this success The Transport Manager Ltd of Newbury has been authorised as an Approved Driver CPC Training Centre. (No. AC00487.)

His 20 years as a qualified transport manager has often brought him into contact with horse owners in all spheres, including amateurs such as Sadie Lynes, professional and Olympic riders and he is involved in a polo horse transporting company.

“The VOSA approach has scared horse owners, but we can help. Without prior experience, translating the legislation can be confusing especially when trying to make it relevant to your vehicles and licences. We have that experience, and can explain how the law will affect you and what you need to do to be fully compliant.

“We hope that the information we have provided on our Support Page truly helps! By filling out the Survey we can help even more – so please do complete the questions. You can also contact us if you have any questions.”

“Paul recently presented to a group of our athletes who are currently on the British Equestrian Federation’s Young Professional Programme. Paul’s enthusiasm and practical approach to presenting the legal requirements for transporting horses made what could be a very dry subject come to life. His experience and anecdotes of different scenarios that he had helped resolve also gave further insight  and important information to this group of young athletes who are now  starting to manage their own businesses”
