Horse Box Regs
Please help us provide better information for the industry by answering the following questions. All answers will be treated confidentially and include your name and email address if you would like to receive our newsletter offering tips and advice on keeping your horse transport street legal.
1. What weight category is your horsebox?
Did you know most 7.5t horse boxes can only carry between 1 and 2 tonne after all the feed, water and tack has been loaded onto the vehicle? This means that if you are carrying 2 or more horses you could be very close to, if not over, the carrying capacity!
Are you confident you are operating within the weight allowance?
Please add any comments which could help us to help you:-
2. Do you tow a Horse Trailer?
Are you aware of the towing capacity of the tow vehicle?
If yes, are you aware of the towing restrictions if you passed your licence after 1997?
3. Have you ever accepted any money for transporting horses or is the transport of horses related to your business or professional activity ?
Do you ever accept diesel money from friends for transporting their horses (if you are attending the same show, for example)?
If yes, you may need an Operators Licence.
Are you aware of the operators licence procedures, how to apply for one if you havent got one and what records you need to keep to comply with the regulations?
4. Are you compliant with the driving hours regulations and aware of whether or not they relate to you?
If you operate a vehicle 7.5t and under and only use it to transport your horse for pleasure, these rules do not apply to you, but if you fall outside this category the rules may apply.
5. Have you ever been prosecuted for an offence related to driving your horsebox or trailer?
